März& April: Entwicklung von Perspektiven

Hallo an alle nach langer Zeit,

es ist sind bereits zwei Monate vergangen und es ist viel vorangekommen in meinem Projekt als auch in meinem Privatleben: 

Diese Wochen habe ich nur unregelmäßig arbeiten können, da ich viel zu lesen, schreiben und zu lernen hatte und auch viel unterwegs war- Als Freiwillige haben wir laut weltwärts-Vertrag eine Anzahl an Wochenstunden, die allerdings in meinem Projekt kaum möglich ist einzuhalten. Ich arbeite mal so, mal so; je nach dem wie es gerade gebraucht wird und was ich alles schaffen kann. Ein Freiwilligendienst in der Fundación Amazonia hat meiner Meinung nach mehr mit der Leidenschaft und der Verwirklichung von Zielen zu tun als Stunden abzuarbeiten. Ich bin sehr froh über die „Gleitzeit“, da ich dadurch viele verschiedene Dinge unter einen Hut bekommen kann und den Alltag flexibel und spontan strukturieren kann. Letztes Jahr habe ich vor lauter Arbeitseifer und Ehrgeiz etwas an der Situation der Mädels zu helfen, meine persönlichen Ziele etwas vernachlässigt. Schneller als ich glauben kann sind die Monate vergangen und nun bleibt mir nicht mehr viel Zeit mich auf die Uni vorzubereiten, Spanisch zu lernen, meine Firmung zu machen und all‘ die weiteren Dinge, die ich mir erträumt hatte. Gleichzeitig läuft ebenfalls in Bezug auf mein Projekt die Zeit davon, in der ich Momente mit den der Kindern des Misk’y Wasi teilen kann…

Mir war im Februar auf den tagelangen Personalsitzungen die Aufgabe zugewiesen die Rolle der Freiwilligen in der Fundación Amazonia festzulegen und Unterlagen dazu zu verfassen. Das Wort Freiwilligendienst hat keine universelle Definition und da jeder Freiwillige andere Hintergründe, Motive und persönliche Ziele mit sich bringt, ist eine Orientierung und Einleitung, sowie Strukturierung ihres Einsatzes nötig. Ich hoffe, dass meine Texte Orientierung und Inspiration für die kommenden Freiwilligen sein werden. 

Unter meinen ausgedachten neuen Regeln für Freiwillige befindet sich unter anderem einen persönlich Arbeitsplan zu entwickeln. Zunächst hat der Freiwillige zwei Wochen Zeit um zu beobachten wie man sich einbringen kann, um in Sucre als auch im Projekt „anzukommen“ und sich zu orientieren. Dann soll sie/ er nach Absprache mit den Erziehern einen Arbeitsplan für seinen/ihren Aufenthalt vorstellen. Gleichzeitig ist es hilfreich seine persönlichen Ziele des Jahres aufzuschreiben und ebenfalls in die Aufenthaltsplanung mit aufzunehmen. 

Auch ich habe meinen Arbeitsplan und muss feststellen, dass es nicht immer so einfach ist, diesen einzuhalten. Im März war ich beispielsweise sehr im Verzug mit meinen Monatszielen. Das ist verständlich, wenn man beachtet, dass vieles nicht nur von mir  als Freiwilliger abhängt, sondern sich aufgrund von anderen Personen oder Institutionen verzögert.

 Beispiel ist der Fall von Sofía Morodías. Nach der OP im Dezember war klar, dass sie noch gelasert werden müsse und eine lange Behandlung mit Stimulation des Auges und spezieller Brille vor ihr läge. Bis Mitte Februar war das Kinderheim geschlossen. Aufgrund der vielen Arbeit schickte ich Sofía alleine mit ihrer Mutter ins Krankenhaus. Es schien wochenlang immer etwas anderes dazwischenzukommen. Man muss für das öffentliche Krankenhaus eine Marke ziehen. Da immer großer Anlauf ist, muss man um vier Uhr morgens bereits in der Schlange seinen Platz sichern. Die Uhrzeit war das erste Mal der Grund, danach das Geld (umgerechnet 4 Euro), danach hatte ich der Mutter das Geld gegeben und es wurde ihr angeblich geklaut, am anderen Tag war es die Erzieherin des Misk’y die laut der Mutter nicht immer Erlaubnis gäbe etc. Am Ende meinte sie ich würde gebraucht, der Dr. würde nach mir fragen und müsste mich sehen. Also musste ich doch nochmal ins Krankenhaus mit Sofí. Mich überraschte allerdings, dass an dem Tag nach einer schlaflosen Nacht und anfänglichen Verzögerungen alles wie am Schnürchen lief! Der Dr. untersuchte Sofía und entschied den Laser direkt an dem Tag zu machen. Er gab uns Augentropfen und erklärte mir wie ich die tägliche Stimulation des Auges durchführen sollte. Nach zwei Tagen sollte ich wieder kommen, um die Brille für Sofía zu vermessen. – ein auf und ab dieser Fall, aber Sofía scheint auf gutem Weg zu sein!

Neben dem Fall Sofía habe ich mich häufig gefragt, was ich machen kann, um den Mädels nicht nur in den Monaten, in denen ich hier lebe etwas zu geben. Auf der Personalversammlung im Februar kamen Ideen und Strategien zum Empowerment auf. Die Projektleiterin Pati Campos, die leider nur bis Mai eingestellt ist, hat in der kurzen Zeit schon tolle Sachen organisiert. Zwei Mal die Woche haben ausgewählte Mädels nun immer Musik-Unterricht. Es gibt nebenbei auch noch eine Musikstunde für alle. Sie hat außerdem ein Projekt über persönliche Werte initiiert, in dem die Mädchen über Vertrauen, Freundschaft, Respekt, Benehmen etc. lernen und reflektieren. 

Weitere Ideen, die ich selber neben Pati’s Projekt versuche umzusetzen sind:

 -ein Nähkurs für vier jugendliche Mädels

-(die erste) gynäkologische Untersuchung für alle älteren Mädels

-wöchentliche Folklore-Tanzstunden und die Teilnahme an einem Ballett des religiösen Festivals „Entrada de la Virgen de Guadalupe“ im September in Sucre

-eine Ausstellung der von den Mädels‘ in einem kommenden workshop hergestellten Kunstwerken in einer Galerie

Es wäre traumhaft noch Gesangsstunden und Theater anbieten zu können, aber das ist relativ utopisch, da ich hier leider keine Kontakte bezüglich dessen habe, die in Zukunft die Verantwortung dafür übernähmen- aber es muss ja immer noch Platz für kreative Freiwillige bleiben die jährlich die Fundación Amazonia unterstützen!:)

Die oben genannten Überlegungen müssen in Form von formalen Übereinkommen festgeschrieben werden. Häufig wird zur Absicherung von beispielsweise Materials oder Transportes auch verfügbares Geld benötigt. Da damals so viele Menschen Geld für das Misk’y Wasi gespendet haben, können die oben genannten Aktivitäten nun abgesichert werden- auch in Zukunft ohne meine Präsenz. Erneut ein Grund allen Spendern zu danken! Jeder Cent wird in das Misk’y investiert!

 March& April: development of perspectives

 

Hello everyone after this long time,

two months are already over and loads of stuff has been going on in my project as well as in private life. These weeks I’ve only been able to work irregularly, because I had to read,write and study a lot (Spanish, about Bolivia, form y studies in the future etc.) As a volunteer of the scholarship from the German government I have a number of work-hours to fulfill., which are almost impossible in my project. Some days I work more, some days less, depending on how it is needed and what I can achieve. To me a volunteer service in the fundación Amazonia is more about passion and realizing goals instead of fulfilling work hours. I’m really happy about the flexible working hours, because that way I can manage loads of different stuff at the same time and live a spontaneous everyday. Because of all my ambition to help and change something about the girls‘ situation last year, I forgot my personal goals a little bit. The months passed faster than I thought and now there is not much time left to prepare myself for university, to learn Spanish better, to do my confirmation and all the other things I dreamed of doing. What I also see is that time is running out to share moments with the girls from my project…

During the staff meeting in February the task of defining the role of volunteers in the Fundación Amazonia was given to me. The word volunteer service doesn’t have a universal definition and since every volunteer comes from different backgrounds, with different personal aims and reasons for working as a volunteer, an orientation and introduction as well as a “job design“ for a successful volunteer service is necessary. I hope my texts will be an inspiration and a help fort he next volunteers. J

The new rules for volunteers include having a personal work plan. First of all the volunteer hast wo weeks to get to know the project as well as the new area. Afterwards he or she shall hand in a work plan for his/her stay ( in agreement with the educators). At the same time it’s helpful to write down the personal goals to keep them structured and in mind for the planification of the stay.

I also have my work plan that I handed in and I had to notice that it’s not that easy to meet the dreamed goals. In March for instance I was very delayed with fulfilling my monthly goals. That can be understood if taken in mind that loads of stuff doesn’t depend  on me as a volunteer but instead it is prolongated by other people or institutions. An example ist he case of Sofía Morodías. After the surgery in December it was clear that she still needed a laser and would have a long process of stimulation and glassesin front of her. Until mid-February the children’s home was closed. Because of loads of work I sent Sofía’s Mum to hospital to acompany her. For weeks any time I asked to bring her tot he hospital Sofí’s Mum had an excuse why it didn’t work out last time. Fort he public hospital you have to pull a number. Since loads of people go, you have tob e waiting at 4a.m. already to have a place to receive a number. The early hour was the first reason to tell me she couldn’t, afterwards the money  you need to pay (about four Euros). When I then gave her the money, she toldme they stole it. Another day she said the educator oft he Misk’y Wasi wouldn’t always allow Sofía to leave to go tot he hospital etc. At the end she told me they needed me tob e there, that the Dr. wanted to talkt o me. So once again I had to go to hospital with Sofí. I was surprised when that day everything went super fast after start problems in the morning: The Dr. made a revision and decided to laser immediately that day. He gave us eye drops and explained to me how to stimulate the eye every day. Two days later I was supposed to come back tot he hospital to measure Sofi’s glasses. This case really was a high’n’low,but it seems like Sofía is gonna get better with this treatment.:)

Beneath the case of Sofía I was wondering loads what to do to give the girls something sustainable and not just help while I’m living here. At the staff meeting in February we thougt of ideas and strategies to empower the kids and adolescents oft he fundation. The project facilitator Pati Campos, who unfortunately will only be realizing her work until May, has organized loads of great stuff already. Twice a week chosen girls have music lessons now. There is also another music lesson for all oft he girls. Moreover she initiated a project about personal values where the kids learn and reflect about confidence, friendship, respect, behaviour etc.

More ideas that I’m trying to realize apart from Pati’s project are:

-a sewing course for four adolescents

-(the first) gynegological revision fort he adolescents

-weekly folcloric dance lessons and the participation in a Ballet fort he religious festival “Entrada de la Virgen de Guadalupe“ in September in Sucre

-an exposition oft he girl’s artwork(which is gonna be done in an upcoming workshop)

It woule be a dream to offer voice lessons and theatre,too, but unfortunately that is pretty utopical because I do not count with any contacts here in that area who could take responsability over that in the future.- but of course there needs tob e some space left for creative new volunteers who support the Fundación Amazonia every year!:)

The ideas mentioned above have to be documented formally in conventions. Loads of times money is needed to assure material or transport for instance. Since loads of people donated so much fort he Misk’y Wasi and Sofía last year, all the mentioned activities will be realised- even in the future without my personal presence. Another reason to thank all the donators! Every penny is being inverted in the Misk’y!

Grillen in Tarija! Das Fleisch ist so unglaublich gute, frische Qualität und bezahlbar. Die Qualität zu dem Preis ist nicht in Deutschland zu finden. Grillen ist sehr typisch für die Region Tarija; ein Touch deutsch musste auch sein: Knoblauchbaguette!:) - Barbecue in Tarija! The meat is such an incredibly fresh and good quality and also affordable. The quality with that price is impossinle to find in Germany. Barbecue is typical for the region Tarija; the German touch is the garlic bread!

Flüsse, ebenfalls typisch für Tarija- rivers, also typical for Tarija.

Ostern wird in San Lorenzo, ein Dorf in der Nähe der Stadt Tarija, besonders zelebriert. Neben dem Blumenschmuck, gab es live Musik und viele weitere Vorführungen gegen Abend. Die Atmosphäre war wunderschön und erinnerte mich an deutsche Weihnachtsmärkte. -Easter in San Lorenzo, a village near the city of Tarija, is celebrated in a special way. Apart from the flower decoration, they had live music and more in the evening. The atmosphere was wonderful and somehow reminded me of a German Christma market.

Für einen Kindergeburtstag in Tarija probierte ich aus FoodArt zu machen. Das macht wirklich Spaß!- For a kid's birthday I tried out to make food art.:)
